Martin Argentina- And if Northern Ireland didn\\\'t want to be part of the UK we would allow them to leave, even if they wanted to be part of a country far aware. Culturally the Falklands settlers are British, they own the land, and they have the right to decide. It is fundamentally undemocratic to think otherwise. Argentina should stop engaging in petty nationalism.

Jake GB Observer (7 days 21 hours ago)

I\'m sorry Argentina but I think that it\'s the people of the Falklands to decide, and they mainly want to live in peace as BRITISH people

I cant beleave how you can think that Malvinas could be from the UK. The Uk is far away from Malvinas, 8000 km. Malvinas is 500ks far away from our cost, the same distance between Belfast and London. MALVINAS ARGENTINAS

Martín Argentina Observer (8 days 20 hours ago)

Malvinas apears first time in a map in the 1600, a dutch called Sebalt de Weer discover them. In the 1700s there were problems between Spain, Paris and London cause of the islands. In 1766 French went out, and in the ends of 1700 treats of Nutks (read 6th article, is about south america) are sidned by Uk and Spain. 1766 is created Gobernacion Islas Mavinas, Spain. In 1820 Argentina send a ship to control the fishing. In 1833 UK invade again and done the Gaucho Murders.

There is NO reason why the Falklands should ever be Argentinian. They Falklands were British before Argentina existed. Argentina or its predecessors never governed the Falklands. Geologically the Falklands were once part of Africa (!). The population are not of Argentinian ancestry nor do they speak Spanish. Argentina is simply trying to disguise its own internal political problems, macho outlook and colonialism (see also their efforts in Antarctica). Argentina leave the Falkland Island alone.

faza Observer (9 days 47 minutes ago)

argentina never owneded the island, they never claimed it, they never tried to settle is, the inhabitents dont want them there and no one was even there befor the british (the only people to even bother claiming it befir the british were the spanish but the didnt bother colonising it... argentina stop whining you have no claim over it, your not wanted and the only reason you want it is because of money and thye possible oil is the are

Jonathan GB Observer (9 days 1 hour ago)

Argentina simply does not have the capability to launch a successful attempt on the islands. Its Air Force is comprised entirely of obsolete jets, that even the four Typhoons stationed on the islands could annihilate between them. It\'s not even worth contemplating the waste in human life sending Argentine pilots in those aircraft against that threat. The islander\'s have the right to self determination, no claim can take that from them, and Britain will defend that right no ma

England has robbed the world over. Now it is paying the price because it can\'t keep itself. The falklands belong to the Argentines. But the UK might win a war once again as they have the devil on side.

Luke121 GB Observer (9 days 15 hours ago)

I\'m sorry but it is the choice of the Falklands people to decide whether they remain British or go back to Argentina. Even so it is crafty and underhanded of the Argentine Government to cause stirs when the Economic state of the UK is less than good, if anything it show who the real thugs are and if there is one thing Britain always has been and thats strong, independent and fearless in the face of stronger enemies, we have seen them off twice and we will do it a third time if needed.

I think US opinion is beginning to change now that Obama is losing steam and Iran is setting up ties with South America. The USA needs to realize that Britain has had its troops dying side by side with Americans for years. Argentina hate the USA and haven\'t done your country a single service.

Jeff GB Voted for United Kingdom (21 days 13 hours ago)

Who would want to be ruled be a corrupt economically unstable country like Argentina? Let the people of the Falkands decide. I am sure though that they will choose Britain, and very wise since they can trust Britain more than the facist Argentina

Peter Reed GB Voted for United Kingdom (22 days 17 hours ago)

The British claimed the islands in 1765. Even if a permanent settlement was not established until 1833, we cannot escape the fact that Britain claimed the islands before Argentina existed. There is no precedent for a nation state, upon independence, claiming other territories of its former colonial power. In addition, Argentina refuses to settle the claim in the ICJ, the islanders want to remain British and proximity claims are clearly ludicrous. Arg. occupation would constitute colonisation.

David SG Observer (26 days 3 hours ago)

Might is right. Let the two nations fight to the last man and let whoever remains claim the island

James AU Voted for United Kingdom (1 month 22 hours ago)

I\'m sorry to everyone saying \"END THE EMPIRE\" and all but the simple fact of the matter is... The Falkland people want to remain under British control. If you are against that than you are against right to self determination (Vietnam War) and are supporting imperialism.

jake GB Voted for United Kingdom (1 month 1 day ago)

Well, when the British and french first discovered these islands, there were no native people from the island. I feel that the UK should part govern with Argentina, yes it may be about oil, and probably is. The facts remain that the British do have a legitimate claim, but the Argentina was given the islands by the Spanish as well. It is tricky to say who should have the islands, but is it not better to avoid any confrontation and use this to learn about maybe letting go of old imperialism ?

Cyndi US Voted for United Kingdom (1 month 2 days ago)

Argentina has no valid claim, Obama is a flim flam man who is using this to blackmail the UK for a a piece of the oil action.
